Monsignor Oscar Calvo was a young priest alongside Father Duenas and Father Sablan when the Japanese attacked that faithful day. As one of the only three religious leaders allowed to stay on the island, he and Father Duenas were in charge of the Catholic Church while Father Sablan was leading the Protestant Church. As the only surviving Catholic priest left after the War had taken Father Duenas, he became the leading Catholic Chamorro Patriot Priest on the island. His efforts thereafter were focused on the rebuilding of the Catholic presence on Guam through building temporary cathedrals, scheduling masses, and planning the burials of loved ones including the burial of his late friend, Father Duenas. Even through blindness and burdens, he lived his life to the fullest in service of the Lord.
