Jesus Baza Duenas was born on march 19th, 1911. at the young age of 15, he entered the san jose seminary in manila to pursue the life of the priesthood. as the second priest to be ordained in the entirety of guam's history and one of only two catholic priests present on the island during the occupation of guam by the Japanese, it was up to both him and fellow priest (at the time) Oscar l. calvo to lead the people of guam through those dark times. Father Duenas was a leading moral figure in the community and was executed by the Japanese for hiding the whereabouts of American Radioman George tweed and to exercise there power on july 12, 1938. he was remembered as a martyr for the Christian faith and as a hero defending the integrity of his people. his legacy still exists today, with the founding of a father Duenas memorial school ten years after his death. father Duenas memorial school is still present to this day.
